Usage
ADD for iPhoto works just like the original (A)perture (D)uplicate (D)etector with one exception. iPhoto makes it very difficult for programs like this to create new keywords. It happily will use existing ones. As a result, in order to use ADD for iPhoto, you will need to add a few keywords.
This can be done manually, or by
importing this image file into your iPhoto library.
The required keywords are:
If those keywords are not created, ADD for iPhoto will prevent a scan from starting until all the needed keywords are correctly entered.
To do it manually within iPhoto use the menu item Window->Manage My Keywords (or the keyboard shortcut Command + K). Then click "Edit Keywords". There is a + button on the lower left which adds new keywords.
An alternative, and easier way of adding keywords is described in this mini
tutorial.
By far, the easiest way of adding the required keywords is by
importing this image file into your iPhoto library.
One more thing, iPhoto only supports a flat keyword hierarchy, unlike Aperture.
Note that keywords are case sensitive. If you are having trouble getting past ADD's keyword verification,
check that your keywords are entered correctly with the exact same letter upper and lower cases. Furthermore,
the missing presented during the verification dialog are shown with quotations. These quotation marks should not
be entered with the keywords.
Scan Library
Scan Library does a full and comprehensive scan of all images in your library and performs ImageIQ on potential duplicates.
Each image is compared to every other image. There's a lot going on, so if you have a large number of images in your library you'll have to be patient.
It is irrelevant what sort order the images are presented to ADD. Once complete, you'll have a full set of date, filename, and hash duplicates ready for you to process for deletion.
Scan Selection
Scan Selection does a full and comprehensive scan of only the images you have selected within iPhoto, and performs ImageIQ on potential duplicates.
It is irrelevant what sort order the images are presented to ADD. Once complete, you'll have a full set of date, filename, and hash duplicates ready for you to process for deletion.
After The Scan
There is also a tutorial on what to do once ADD for iPhoto has finished its job.
